BLOCKS used Idea Hunt to crowd source a new logo

This is a letter from the BLOCKS Team. They are are currently running an Idea Hunt for a new logo that has collected 90 designs and 147 hunters.

Dear all,

Firstly, thank you for entering the BLOCKS Logo Competition. The response so far has been amazing! With a few more days to go, we wanted to get in touch with some helpful information.

Great Tips for Winning!

A lot of great feedback has been provided to improve individual entries. Now we wanted to give everyone the chance to improve their chances of winning so here are some general tips.

  • Pay very close attention to what BLOCKS is as a “brand”. Yes, we are creating a smartwatch but we are modular and open. This should be emphasized the most in our logo.
  • Responding to feedback and improving your entries will put you on good terms when we decide the winners.
  • Quality over Quantity. You are free to submit as many ideas as you want but we would value 2-3 great ideas over 7 poorly put together ideas.
  • Quality over Quantity again. You can score points by submitting feedback on other ideas and we have been paying a lot of attention to those who do. If you provide constructive assessments to other users, we will be more inclined to reward your effort.
  • A logo should be simple and eye catching. There are some great concepts and amazing levels of creativity but let’s not get carried away by putting together a great image, but poor logo. Don’t over-complicate it. Please refer to this article for “Vital Tips for Effective Logo Design”.
  • Continue to vote, provide feedback, share and discuss throughout the competition. Higher participation will increase your chances of winning a prize.

You only have to look at the best best logos in the world to see what we hope the final BLOCKS logo to be.

Important Note: Label your logo entries
If you happen to change your logo please keep the older version and label all versions in order ie Version 1.0/ 1.5/ 2.0/3.0. The latest version should sit at the top of the page. Also your logo designs are different enough, submit them separately.

More details on the terms of contest

We wanted to remain open about the rules of the competition. When we decided to do this, we wanted it to be accessible for both amateurs and professionals. The aim was to engage our fans and supporters by sparking some creativity in the community while welcoming new fans onto the BLOCKS journey. You can see the full details on our Kickstarter update.

Here are the terms of the competition to encourage you guys to keep up the good work:

  • Whether we USE the 1st prize winner’s logo is at the discretion of the BLOCKS team. This is because we have thousands of fans and future consumers to consider when moving forward and the future of BLOCKS which is ultimately decided by the founders.
  • Votes alone doesn’t guarantee you as a winner. The BLOCKS team will reward people who vote, provide feedback and improve their ideas throughout the competition. Do not be discouraged if your ideas don’t get as many votes. You may still have a chance.
  • The prizes will be delivered in September 2016. We have something special for winners that will co ensign with the launch of our modular smartwatch.
